Friends of the Earth criticised for misleading claims

The Advertising Standards Agency has upheld a complaint about one of Friends of the Earth’s anti-fracking leaflets. The leaflet made a variety of claims about fracking including that it caused cancer and would depreciate house prices. An energy company, Cuadrilla, complained to the ASA.

This is a good example for Unit 1 pressure groups. It can be argued that pressure groups are good for democracy because they educate the public, but this is a good example of pressure groups not always providing accurate information.
