The annual Million Mask March occurred in London on Saturday 5th November. This march involves people wearing Guy Fawkes masks (like V for Vendetta) and is an anti-capitalist/pro civil liberties march. This is an example of pressure group action and can be used in a number of ways:
- An example of direct action
- An example of action being linked to international movements (this coincides with a number of marches in other countries
- An example of technology facilitating pressure group action – this was organised through Facebook where 200,000 people posted that they were planning to attend
- An example of illegal action – Anonymous hacked the Metropolitan Police’s website in retaliation for the 53 arrests they made during the march.
