House of Lords Wreck Government Housing Bill

The House of Lords has inflicted a series of defeats on the government’s housing bill. Two amendments passed by the Lords on Monday have already caused the government to change its plans, and another defeat occurred on Wednesday.

This is great for Unit 2 Parliament – a good recent example of Parliament scrutinising legislation (and making a difference since the amendments have been accepted by the government). Also, it is evidence of a more assertive Lords (since 1999 reform, but more markedly since 2015).
